Feliks Topolski: artist notes on 'Memoir of the Century' - 14 Commonwealth
The Mural 'Cavalcade of the Commonwealth', painted for the Festival of Britain in 1951, is remounted in parts, after its return from ten years in Singapore's Victoria Memorial Hall; here the sequences include Africa, Burma and Ceylon united in Buddhism, South-East Asia (Malaya - Sir Henry Gurney, the High Commissioner in his ceremonial whites at the prow, Sarawak jungle explorations with Tom Harrison), India (the Nizam of Hyderabad and Maharaja of Mysore, Hinduism and the Holy Ganges), Hong Kong.
